Family paperwork checklist
Paperwork becomes difficult when filing and action are treated as the same thing. A document can be safely stored and still have an unfinished deadline, call or form attached to it.
A simple system that works
1. Separate current from reference-only
Keep active paperwork easy to find and move older reference material out of the everyday working pile.
2. Record why each document matters
A note such as bring to appointment or reply by Friday is more useful than a filename alone.
3. Track deadlines outside the document
A due date buried inside a PDF or letter is easy to miss. Turn it into a visible task or reminder.
4. Keep reference numbers findable
Store useful account, case or booking references beside the related document or task.
5. Avoid unnecessary duplication
Keep one trusted current copy instead of repeatedly forwarding the same paperwork around.
Do not wait for a perfect setup
Start with the next real thing that needs doing. A small current system is more useful than a complete archive nobody can maintain.
