Practical family admin guide

Family admin handover checklist

A useful handover is not a complete life history. It is the smallest reliable picture another person needs to step in without guessing what has already happened.

A simple system that works

1. Start with today

What needs attention now, what has already been done and what is still unfinished?

2. Show the next seven days

Upcoming appointments, deadlines, visits and planned follow-ups are usually the most important context.

3. Call out anything unusual

Changes from the normal plan deserve a clear note so they are not missed.

4. List who to contact

Include the relevant family member or service and why the next person might need them.

5. Leave a clear return point

Say when the original person is taking back over and what should be reported before then.

Do not wait for a perfect setup

Start with the next real thing that needs doing. A small current system is more useful than a complete archive nobody can maintain.
